WALKING FOR PETE 2016

Story

In 2012 Pete was generously donated a Kidney from his Uncle. We went into the transplant with great optimism knowing that only 2% of a Live Transplants fail. Due to unfortunate circumstances Pete's transplant didn't work and so life on Dialysis started.

Firstly at a clinic 3 x a week 5 hours each session in the evening. Then together as a family we decided the best option for pete was to move to home dialysis allowing him the freedom to diaylize when he wants and allowing him longer treatments which is    substantially better for his health then the limited hours a clinic could offer.

This year Pete made the decision he was ready to go on the transplant list... there are currently 1083 people on the transplant list waiting for a kidney. The average wait time is 3 years but it's not uncommon to wait up to 7!!!

Looking back on the last 4 years and everything that has happened there has been many times we have all asked ourselves "Why?" But now I can honestly say that everything happens for a reason... we are incredibly blessed to have an amazing group of family and friends who have supported us when we have needed them the most.
It has pushed us (pete especially) emotionally, mentally and physically and we are still fighting strong. We have been through more than most could imagine but we have so much to be greatful for.
We have met some amazing new friends through the journey who have been by Pete's side also doing dialysis and have now been blessed with the gift of a kidney.

I am inspired each year to strive for better results from the previous (more walkers, more money raised and so much more awarness) not only for Pete but for everyone that suffers from Kidney disease. I am inspired to help give a voice to Kidney disease, one that promotes awarness and encourages people to become organ donor's, because it really does change lives!!!

So even if you cannot walk please donate

Please support us in this year's Research Walk in support of Kidney Health Australia. It’s a cause close to our hearts.

Each year more Australians die with kidney related disease than breast cancer, prostate cancer and even road deaths. Sadly, 1 in 3 Australians is at increased risk of kidney disease and an estimated 1.7 million Australians over the age of 25 already have at least one clinical sign of existing kidney disease. It's a very important health issue.

As we start to count down to my Research Walk, we invite you to cheer us on and to dig deep to help us reach our fundraising goal.

Specifically, funds from this event are devoted to key research priorities, which will continue to drive health policy and advance programs that change and save the lives of those impacted by kidney disease.

Every dollar counts so please help us make a difference with a secure online donation, big or small – just click on the ‘Donate’ button on the side. You will automatically receive a tax-deductible receipt via email.

Kidney Health Australia receives 100% of all donations.

Thank you for supporting our efforts in the 2016 Research Walk!

    Kidney Health Australia

Kidney Health Australia was established in 1968 as the Australian Kidney Foundation. It is now a cohesive national body—a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improve health outcomes and quality of life for people living with kidney disease and their carers. It operates primarily due to the generosity of the public, largely in the form of donations, bequests and community fundraising.
